In collaboration with her supervisory team (Marcus A. M. de Aguiar, Vítor V. Vasconcelos and Fernando P. Santos), Lara Domingos Hissa has been awarded a prestigious PDSE (Programa de Doutorado Sanduíche no Exterior) doctoral fellowship by CAPES, the Brazilian Ministry of Education’s foundation for research support. Lara is a PhD student from the Gleb Wataghin Physics Institute at the University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil, and we are delighted to welcome her to the Computational Science Lab!
Lara’s PhD research, supervised by Marcus A. M. de Aguiar at Unicamp, focuses on the dynamics of species formation using computational models. Her recent work explores speciation processes in extended environments and phase transitions in speciation regimes. During her undergraduate and master’s studies, she was a member of a research group in complex systems, where she studied an opinion model developed by the group.
From February through July 2026, Lara will collaborate with CSL’s Vítor V. Vasconcelos and Fernando P. Santos at on her project “Correlated Opinion Models based on Interaction Matrices.” This work bridges her doctoral research on speciation dynamics with her background in complex systems and opinion modeling.
We look forward to Lara’s contributions to CSL and the exciting research outcomes from this partnership!
