When: April 12, 2019 | 12:30-18:00.
Where: 2nd and 3rd floor of the UvA Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), Oude Turfmarkt 147, Amsterdam.
Abstract: I will present some results from my ongoing PhD project that is the part of the CORPNET group at the Political Science department of UvA. My project is on global business elites, i.e. directors and owners of large corporations all over the world. Using a large-scale temporal dataset of corporate connections and network analysis techniques, I investigate how networks of business elites are structured, how do they evolve over time, and which consequences do they have. At this presentation, I will focus on causes (how do individuals join corporations and build ties with each other) and properties (how these global networks are structured in time and space) of these networks. Since it’s a talk for SbS community, I would like to get feedback on potential simulation techniques I can use on my dataset.

About the Friday Club

It’s a weekly informal gathering, where you can bring your issues/projects to discuss, help others to find solutions for their projects, exchange ideas and meet new people. There is no agenda other than a plenary session from 12:30-14:00, organised by junior scientists (e.g. lectures, discussions, a journal club).

You can find the agenda for weekly meetings on IAS website.
