Special-purpose Computing

High-performance computing on special-purpose hardware.

processor.pngThe scientific community relies more and more on dedicated co-processors for high performance computing. These co-processors come in several forms: many-core, data-parallel architectures such as Graphics Processing Units (GPU),  special-purpose hardware such as Gravitational Processing Elements (GRAPE), and dedicated programmable hardware such as Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA).

The challenge in this research is finding an optimal mapping of algorithms to the hardware architecture.

Performance modeling, performance evaluation, N-body dynamics, cellular automata.
