Distributed Multiscale Computing

Contact: dr. Alfons Hoekstra.

In the MAPPER project (www.mapper-project.eu) we investigate a novel computing paradigm called Distributed Multiscale Computing. The goal is to map multiscale models to heterogeneous distributed resources, ranging from high-end supercomputer to community clusters. Within this research theme a number of MSc projects are available:
- DMC on BigGrid and Huyegens: realize and experiment with DMC on Dutch resources, find good scalable DMC solutions, propose DMC efficiency metrics, measure efficience for a range of multiscale models
- ISR3D : This is a 3D multiscale model for in-stent restenosis, a complication that may arise after treatment of coronary heart disease. Goals of this project is to experiment with ISR3D on a range of disributed EU computing platform, looking in detail at efficient mappings, shipping of data, and off course, in collaboration with a PhD student, running ISR3D to obtain a deeper insight in the pathology of the disease.
- A formal description of multiscale modelling and distributed multiscale computing: based on early studies, a further specificiation and formalization of DMC. Extend current base, create tool chains, elaborate for a set of multiscale models.
